Who Runs The World?

So I found this article in the Nytimes about how women politicians don't have sex scandals anywhere near as often as men. The gist of it is that women get into politics for different reasons than men. Mostly, women get into politics because they care about an issue and men get into politics because they want to be somebody. Isn't that terrible? I don't want ANYONE in politics that's just being there to be there.

It also said that women were possibly cleverer at not getting caught. The point I mostly want to make is that women are awesome and there should be more of them in politics. Because men are all stupid. (That's not true. It's just fun to say sometimes.)

  1. That's definitely an interesting perspective! However, despite women being caught less, whether it's because we're cleverer about it or because we care about the issues, it's almost safe to say that men are still the ones ruling the world. And not to say that men ARE the ones ruling, but because the idea that men should be doing these things instead of women may be a main reason as to why there are more men getting higher paying jobs than women.

And because of that, I spit on their knickers and say "PHOOEY."

Also, yes, I know that not all men are douchebags, but it just gives me glee whenever I say it. Am I being sexist? I'll let you decide.

  2. Ok, WARNING: political rant ahead... I agree with your point Cerasi that politicians shouldn't be politicians just to increase their own power. But they, in the overwhelming majority and despite party affiliations, are often there for just that reason: power and influence. I don't care if you're a man or a woman. 9 time out of 10 I would bet that politicians are in the offices they hold for their own advancement.

Not to say that we don't have some genuine people somewhere in places of power, but... genuine politician? Oxymoron anyone?

Which brings me to another issue, that I know is kind of unrelated, but I did warn you... career politicians should be abolished. Like the people who don't do anything and are a senator for 50 years. That's not how it was meant to be. Our representatives were meant to be just that: representative. Like they should take time off of their normal job, serve their country, and go back to their job. Politicians these days skip the last step.

Getting back to the matter at hand. The reason women don't get caught doing these stupid things? Women (most) are not stupid enough to do these things. Some are, of course. But it seems like the power women acquire doesn't immediately go to their cocky heads and make them do ridiculous things while in the public eye. You would think after seeing so man guys before them get caught, they wouldn't risk it, but here we are talking for the second (third?) week in a row about Anthony's weiner. He doesn't deserve this time of day, WHY are we giving it to him?

Maybe they aren't stupid. Maybe they just crave attention more than anything.

  3. I feel sorry for Anthony. His weiner needs be to cut off. I mean, put back in his pants. Yeah. That's what I meant. :D

I wish I could give men some credibility here, but maybe they're stupid and crave attention. If they were smarter, couldn't they find a better way to get attention? (I just realized how sexist I am. Oops.)

  4. @Allya- Oh no, not a political rant AHHH! Kidding, I love it.

I agree with you that people who get into politics just to advance themselves (which is a lot, I'm sure) are terrible. I mean, they're not all career politicians. I feel like, especially at the local level, there has to be some level of interest otherwise why would they get into it? (But that's local vs. national and local levels of celebrity can be its own reward if your that kind of person, I guess.)

Your idea of having politicians go back to their own jobs is interesting. It's almost like being called to service for a few years and then returning to civilian life. I feel like that should be a sci-fi story where being a politician is like serving jury duty. Feel free to steal that.

I mean, I'm sure there are sometimes where someone who has been in politics a long time would just mean they know a lot about the political process and have a lot of experience, but it's hard to tell where that line is.

    @Ada
Lol, I love your comments about Anthony Penis, I mean Weiner. Maybe when that's your last name you just HAVE to post picture of your ding-dong on the internet. Who can say? (Why is saying guys are stupid so much fun? I think I'm a little sexist too.)

  5. Anthony Weiner, sex scandals in general, are stupid and should not be paid attention to. I feel like if you are a good politician, work hard and serve your country then you can do whatever the fuck you want in your spare time. I didn't care that Eliot Spitzer was cheating on his wife with escorts, he passed a law for homeless youth to get medical support.
Yes, escorts are illegal, but pay off the judge and keep passing laws that help the people!
Also, has anyone noticed that Democratic sex scandals are always straight, whereas Republican sex scandals are always gay? Just saying.
Sorry, but I couldn't resist (girls):
