Inspiration

Okay, so I know we are over a month out of commencement mayhem, but I just discovered this speech. Honestly I cried at the end, because of the idea of the elastic dream. My dream in life has changed so many times its ridiculous. Finally someone has admitted to the idea that dreams cannot just consist of a singular goal. Instead, they change as you age and mature.
My dream of being a ballerina doctor when I was little has shifted to me wanting to work in media now. Dreams are a constant flow and flux penetrated by your surroundings. What were your dreams then and now?

Here is the clip:

PS The inspiration comes around 15:00 minutes in.

  1. Ah, how nice~~

I wanted to be a doctor when I was little. I remember distinctly the day when my first grade teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, and I stuck with the "doctor" dream until high school where I realized that I sucked at math and science (despite being in a math and science academy for seven miserable years), and that I had an interest in writing and English literature.

Came to college, and now I'm less interested in English literature and more interested in African literature, and gotten serious about writing and traveling. Oh, how the world has changed!

But I think it's ok to have changing dreams. It just means that we're changing, and the way we see the world is changing, and that's just fine. <3

  2. I watched this at work. And I was inappropriately laughing for the better part of 23 minutes.

Also, Conan is a surprisingly good speaker! It was a really lovely and true point that our dreams don't and really cannot stay the same, because nothing stays the same.

And Cylon, I'm picturing you as a ballerina doctor, healing the sick with your fabulous pirouettes.
